DIRECTOR OF TEACHING AND LEARNING
Reports to: Superintendent

POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Teaching and Learning is responsible for the development, evaluation and implementation of curricula, instructional practices and assessments to ensure best practices are used to impact student learning.

QUALIFICATIONS:

    1.     Minimum of Master’s Degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Curriculum, Assessment, School Improvement, or related field.

    2.     K-12 educational experience.  Successful experience as a building principal preferred.

    3.     Administrative certification. Central Office certification preferred.

    4.     Experience with planning and executing professional learning.

    5.     Experience creating a collaborative process that focuses on systematic changes.

    6.     Experience working with Special Education programming.

    7.     Strong technology skills.

    8.     Strong understanding of Adult Learning Theory, 21st Century Skills, and the importance of Assessment Literacy.

    9.     Strong communicator.

This position requires a minimum of seven to ten years of progressively more responsible or expansive experience in the assessment field and/or in K-12 educational settings, including three to five years of supervisory responsibility.                              

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1.     Directs, manages, and provides oversight for school improvement goals, curriculum development/alignment in accordance with the district’s vision, mission and goals.

    2.     Directs and coordinates the budgeting and evaluation of instructional programs, securing materials including textbooks, software, and instructional technology.

    3.     Follows best practices and administers district policies and procedures

    4.     Evaluates instructional programs with teachers, principals and administration including learning objectives, instructional strategies, and assessment techniques

    5.     Provides staff development opportunities that incorporate the mission of the district, program evaluation outcomes, and input from the teachers.

    6.     Ensures the use of technology by working in conjunction with the Technology Department to enhance learning opportunities.

    7.     Creates a balanced assessment system which allows for a variety of data points to be gathered in order to monitor programming, adjust instruction, and to make educational decisions.

    8.     Works collaboratively with Building Administrators in supporting instructional programming, evaluating programs, or adjusting intervention/specialized programs.

    9.     Performs special assignments as directed by the Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent.

  • Knowledge of current theories of curriculum, instruction and assessment.
  • Knowledge of educational testing instruments, methods, and procedures.

SALARY and BENEFITS:  Negotiable
