POSITION TITLE:                  Coopersville Middle School Principal

 

REPORTS TO:                          Superintendent

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION:         To provide leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to promote the educational development of each Middle School student.

 

                                                     To serve as the educational leader responsible for managing the policies, regulations, and procedures of the school district, ensuring that all students are supervised in a safe and orderly learning environment that meets the approved curricula and mission of the district.

 

                                                     Inherent in the position are the responsibilities for scheduling, teacher evaluations, extra-curricular activities, personnel management, parent/community communications, emergency procedures, and facility operations.

 

SALARY RANGE:                   $83,020 - $100,250 plus Comprehensive Benefit Package

STARTING DATE:                  July 1, 2019

QUALIFICATIONS - Education & Experience

 

  1. Master’s degree or higher in K-12 Administration.
  2. Valid State of Michigan teaching certificate in Elementary and/or Secondary Education. 
  3. Valid State of Michigan Administrative Certificate. 
  4. Minimum of three years of building principal/assistant principal experience, with a wide variety of leadership experience.
  5. Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience.
  6. Demonstrated knowledge and experience of current educational issues and best practices, including, but not limited to:  Professional Learning Communities, Model Schools, school improvement, knowledge of current assessment practices, reading strategies, MiBlisi/PBIS, and data analysis to improve student performance.
  7. Demonstrated leadership and success in parent/community relations, staff, and student culture development.
  8. Demonstrated experience with supervision and human resources.
  9. Experience managing and supervising students in the areas of attendance, discipline, and enforcement of the student code of conduct, etc.
  10. Knowledge of current best practice instructional strategies and the ability to improve teacher instruction.
  11. Demonstrated knowledge of current Federal and State laws and policies.
  12. Demonstrated proactive leadership as part of the school improvement process with evidence of success.
  13. Possess an understanding of the Middle School educational philosophy.
  14. Experience utilizing a teacher evaluation tool and providing effective feedback to staff.
  15. Demonstrated experience with special education programming/504’s and related ancillary services.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Work to establish a building vision, maintain an effective learning climate in the building, and lead change.
  2. Work to establish and maintain a favorable relationship with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school objectives and programs, and to interpret and implement Board Policies and administrative directives.
  3. Responsible for the administration, supervision, and evaluation of administrators, teachers, ancillary staff, and support staff.
  4. Work collaboratively with professional and support staff to initiate, design, and implement programs to meet
  5.  
  6. Constant communication with professional and support staff for the effective operation of the school; as well as participation in district meetings as required.
  7. Supervise accurate student recordkeeping and reporting, maximizing State and Federal funding for the program.
  8. Promoting positive student and staff building climate and culture. 
  9. Act as a liaison between the school and community, encouraging community participation in school activities.
  10. Manage and monitor the school’s budget and expenditure of funds.
  11. Reliable, consistent attendance is a requirement and essential function for all staff positions.
  12. Responsible for the development and implementation of building security policies and procedures.
  13. Responsible for the development of student schedules.
  14. Assist in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, and assigning of the school’s professional and support staff.
  15. When appropriate, delegates authority to responsible staff to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal.
  16. Supervise the guidance program to enhance student education and development.
  17. Supervise night activities associated with the Middle School.
  18. Oversee the athletic/extra-curricular programs for Middle School students.
  19. Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.

 

Working Environment/Conditions

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, sit, speak and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and depth perception. The position will require computer work, involving repetitive hand movement and close vision. The work environment(s) for this position will consist of several different settings, including an office and school buildings. Work is performed primarily indoors, but may include some outdoor activities.
