SUMMARY

To assist adult learners individually and in small groups to improve upon their math skills for high school completion and GED Preparation. This is a part-time position up to 20 hours a week. Monday through Thursday morning, afternoon, and evening hours available.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Assist adult learners in Algebra I & II and Geometry who are pursuing their high school diploma or GED.
  • Provide individual tutoring sessions.
  • Provide small group instruction.
  • Aid students with problem solving strategies.
  • Provide support and encouragement to all learners.
  • Develop positive rapport with students.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Abide by the information contained in the Instructional Handbook.
  • Complies with State and Federal statutes.
  • Attendance and Punctuality.
  • Follow all Board Policies and Guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Adult and Continuing Education.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  Valid Secondary Michigan Teaching Certificate
  EX endorsement preferred

  Experience teaching adult learners preferred

  Experience in differentiated instruction and contextualized learning preferred

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.  Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid Driver’s License required.
