Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree minimal in a related field, Master’s degree preferred in a related field.
  2. Minimum of five years of teaching and varsity coaching experience. Administrative experience preferred.
  3. Proven experience managing and leading adults, students and volunteers.
  4. Experience with effectively managing budgets and resources in the public setting.

Reports to: Building Principal/Superintendent

Supervises: District athletic program grades 5-12.

Job Goal: To provide successful and consistent leadership, collaboration, and coordination in the area of the athletic program of Boyne City High School and Boyne City Middle School.

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinates the 5-12 athletic program in collaboration with principals and coaches to ascertain programmatic needs on an annual basis, as well as prior to each season to ensure consistency of the program.
  2. Provides guidance and leadership to the community in the development of robust, well-rounded athletic programs and student-athletes.  Works with local organizations who provide youth programming for BCPS athletes.
  3. Initiates the recruitment and selection of coaches and makes employment recommendations to the Superintendent/Board of Education.
  4. Supervises and evaluates all coaches at the high school and middle school levels.  “Coaching the coaches” will be an essential aspect of this position.
  5. Schedules all athletic contests, issues contracts for the contest and maintains the proper and necessary records.
  6. Ensure officials are scheduled and contracts are issued for all contests.
  7. Arranges transportation for away school contests.
  8. Supervises the preparation and verifies all athletic eligibility lists.
  9. Supervises and is responsible for the preparation of home athletic contests and acts as the host to officials and visiting schools. Oversees the supervision of contest employees and volunteers who work the athletic contest. Arranges for personnel to supervise contest as needed.
  10. Supervises athletic funds, prepares and administers a detailed operating budget for the athletic program and submits it to the building principal. Orders all equipment and maintains a current inventory of all athletic equipment.
  11. Advises and ensure all coaches conform with Board, MHSAA, league policies, and regulations and with state and federal laws. Attends league and district meetings. Ensure all coaches have successfully completed the required in-service programs.
  12. Provides leadership for and serves as liaison to school affiliated booster groups. Coordinates, with coaches, support for specific youth athletic programs.
  13. Assists with high school discipline as assigned by the high school principal.
  14. Assists with the teacher evaluation process with the Physical Education Department if assigned.
  15. Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and or his/her designee.

Terms of Employment:
Contract starts July 1, 2019
