We are looking for coaches at varsity, JV, and freshman levels.

Purpose Statement:

The Head Coach will oversee and direct all district interscholastic athletic programs in volleyball.  The Head Coach will assist the Athletic Director, providing guidance in building competitive program at the local, league and state level.  Additionally, they will assist young athletes, promoting student achievement in both athletics and academics.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities:   (May not include all tasks employee may be expected to perform.)

  • Responsible for administering both the high school and the middle school volleyball program
  • Responsible for supervising and administering all athletic facilities and use by volleyball teams at Jackson High School and The Middle School at Parkside 
  • Interpret, enforce and administer all rules and regulations as established by the Michigan High School Athletic Association for volleyball
  • Supervise all contracts for volleyball games to eliminate conflicts
  • Maintain a proper balance in all volleyball areas
  • Complete a yearly evaluation of all assistant coaches 
  • Supervises each assistant coach 
  • Meets with each assistant coach, on program administration, goals, inventory, budget, and travel issues
  • Communicates with the building Principal and Athletic Director on supervision needed for volleyball programs and events
  • Insure that proper playing conditions and facilities are maintained for volleyball
  • Promote good public relations with the local community, student body, and visiting schools
  • Oversee all plans including meals, lodging and transportation for practice and out-of-town trips for volleyball
  • Prepare an annual budget and meets with Athletic Director for approval for supplies and equipment
  • Coordinate all budgeting for equipment for volleyball grades 7-8 or 9 -12
  • Make arrangements for volleyball awards banquets
  •  Work with any community group or student organization in setting up appropriate programs
  • Will attend necessary MHSAA, league, and state volleyball association meetings
  • Develop a volleyball handbook in cooperation with the principals, Athletic Director, to include the following:  Athletic code and conduct ,Appeal process, Rules, regulations and policies for volleyball
  • Any other duties assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee



Qualification Requirements:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be qualified to perform essential duties. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Ability to promote harmonious relationships with all assistant coaches and support staff
  • Ability to promote harmonious relationships, faculty and administrators
  • Ability to promote harmonious relationships with students, parents

Education And/Or Experience:

  • Five years of successful teaching and/or coaching experience preferred.
  • Two years as a Head Coach preferred.
  • Experience in coaching multiple sports preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations (if applicable): 

  • Member of the SPORT high school state association.

Desired Attributes:

  • Previous experience as an athlete.
  • Previous experience with budgeting preferred.
  • Expert customer service skills.

Physical Requirements (if applicable):  The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Must be able to work in an office environment sitting at a desk.
  • Must be able to demonstrate techniques used in volleyball.
  • Some lifting required (up to 45 pounds.)
  • Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time.
