Position Details: 

Description:  Full-time administrator needed to lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of special education programs and services throughout the Ottawa Area, ensuring a personalized, quality public education for each student, as well as compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Individual in this position works collaboratively with local leaders to identify, establish and monitor progress on a regional plan that improves achievement/outcomes for students with disabilities.  Additionally, this individual leads and manages OAISD-operated special education programs/services including programs for students with a range of cognitive and physical disabilities, students with emotional disabilities, adjudicated youth, infant/pre-school age children and students struggling with attendance.  

Starting Date:  2019-2020 School Year

Position Requires:

  • Minimum of a Master’s degree, preferably in Special Education Administration, with a minimum of five years of successful experience in special education administration, or an equivalent combination of master’s level education and experience. 
  • Preferred candidate will have experience both as a local district level special education administrator and an ISD/RESA-level special education administrator, and should be knowledgeable about both center and non-center programs.
  • Full state approval as a Director of Special Education, or be eligible to receive approval upon application.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with staff, students, parents, local district/school administrators and other stakeholders.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of state/federal special education rules and regulations, and experience in applying rules and regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work in partnership with other individuals and organizations.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Evidence of active participation and leadership in professional organizations.

Starting Salary Range:  To be determined.
