Job Description

Position Opportunity:

Under the direction of the administrator, and in accordance with established policies and procedures, the Teacher, Malcolm Williams School, plans, implements and evaluates the assigned educational components for emotionally impaired and at-risk students. Please see website for full description.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with a secondary math endorsement.  Endorsements in one or more additional content areas preferred.
  • Possess special education endorsement in the area of Emotionally Impaired or willingness to obtain this additional endorsement.
  • Knowledge and skill in commonly used approaches to educating emotionally impaired and at-risk students, particularly at the secondary age level.  
  • Knowledge of the requirements of state and federal mandates which directly affect the program and teaching situation.
  • Ability to develop and carry out individual educational plans (academic and behavioral) for students.

 

 

 

Working Conditions:

 

Physical Demands:  While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk or hear and must possess physical abilities sufficient to employ physical intervention strategies when necessary, i.e. nonviolent crisis intervention techniques.  These abilities include reaching with hands and arms; using hands to finger, handle or feel objects and tools; stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, maintaining balance, be able to regularly lift 50 lbs., and push/pull up to 100 lbs.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.  Auditory abilities necessary for this job include being able to tell where a sound is coming from and hear in a noisy environment. 

 

Work Environment:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be part of a team responsible for safety, well-being and work output.  The employee must be able to work under stress due to the demands of the student.  The noise level in the environment is usually moderate.  The employee may be exposed to infection or aggressive behavior from students at a greater risk than the average person.
