Social Emotional Learning Social Worker – Bowers Academy

2019-2020 School Year

Applications are being accepted for Social Emotional Learning Social Worker with Bloomfield Hills Schools. This is a Bloomfield Hills Education Association (“BHEA”) bargaining unit position

Responsible to:  Bowers Academy Administrator and Director of Special Education

FTE:  1.0


  • Facilitate one-on-one, classroom, or school wide sessions relevant to Bowers Academy students.
  • Passionate about Alternative Education that embraces all non-traditional learners.
  • Implement social emotional learning curriculum and supports.
  • Consistent communication with families, teachers, and administrators.
  • Support restorative approaches to behavior and discipline, recognizing that all people bring unique circumstances and strengths with them.


  • Eligible for current licensure
  • Master’s degree from a graduate school of social work program
  • Completion of an approved graduate school social work program
  • Minimum of a 500 clock hour supervised social work practicum completed through the process of earning a master’s degree in social work and completing a program for school social worker approval
  • Eligible to receive a recommendation for temporary approval from an approval school of social work training program

                     Or        Eligible for continuing temporary approval as a school social worker and eligible for current licensure

                     Or        Full approval as a school social worker and eligible for current licensure

  • Preferred
    • Trained in Restorative Practices
    • Experience in supporting non-traditional learning environments
    • Passion for nature, agriculture, connection to working farm

COMPENSATION BENEFITS:  Pursuant to the BHEA bargaining unit agreement.

STARTING DATE:  August 26, 2019*

*  New Staff Orientation: August 22 & 23, 2019 – Attendance Required
